Leadership Standards of Excellence

These Biblical standards apply to all Leadership at The Church at River Oaks. These are standards as set forth by scripture for all whom God has called to be leaders. Pastor, Elder, Deacon, Music Leader, Other Church Employees, Connection Class Leaders, Life Group Leaders, Ministry Team Leaders, and Congregation Members.

Accountability

Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. (NKJV)
Numbers 30:2: If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. (NKJV)

  • Integrity
    Proverbs 10:9: He who walks with integrity walks securely. But he who perverts his ways will become known. (NKJV)
    • Bring all the tithes into the storehouse
      Malachi 3:8-10: 8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.     • Faithful attendance to the house of God
      Hebrews 10:24-25: 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (NKJV)
    • Testimony
      1 Timothy 3:7: Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (NKJV)
  • Obedience unto Scripture
    John 14:15: If you love Me, keep My commandments. (NKJV)
    Luke 6:46: But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? (NKJV)

Excellence

We give our best, because God gave His best.

Colossians 3:23-24: 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. (NKJV)

  • Balance in our lives
    Romans 12:2: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)

People Centeredness

Always placing others before yourself

John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)

John 13:34: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (NKJV)

    Proverbs 16:18: Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. (NKJV)

    For myself and others
    Philippians 2:3: Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (NKJV)
